How Much Does Social Media Management Cost in South Africa? (2026 Pricing Guide)
July 31, 2026 · 7 min read
South African social media pricing runs from around R2,000 a month for a single freelancer to R30,000+ for a full-service agency running multi-platform content and paid ads. The spread makes sense once you know what changes between bands.
What you actually get at each price band
**R2,000 - R6,000.** One freelancer, usually part-time on your account. Basic graphics, captions, and scheduling for one or two platforms. Little to no original photography, no paid media expertise, and often no strategy beyond "post consistently."
**R6,000 - R15,000.** The realistic band for a growing salon, restaurant, or clinic. Multi-platform posting, some video, a monthly content session or shoot, community management, and basic reporting. This is where most independent businesses land.
**R15,000 - R30,000.** Boutique agency territory: dedicated shoot days, heavier Reels volume, paid campaign management with real budget oversight, and someone thinking about strategy rather than just executing a calendar.
**R30,000+.** Full-service, multi-brand or multi-location accounts, or businesses running significant ad spend that needs daily optimisation. Overkill for a single-site local business.
Where ad spend fits in
Almost no management fee above includes your actual advertising budget. Expect to add R2,500 - R10,000 a month in ad spend on top of the management fee if you want paid reach, not just organic. Some agencies charge a flat fee for ad management, others take 10-20% of spend. Ask which, because the two structures produce very different bills as your budget grows.
The questions that expose a thin package
**Who shoots the content?** If the agency works from photos you send, you are paying for design and scheduling, not content creation. If they shoot it, that is a materially different service.
**How many platforms, and which ones?** A quote for "social media" covering Instagram only is not comparable to one covering Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
**Is community management included?** Someone needs to answer DMs and comments in a reasonable window. This is real time and it is often quietly left out of cheaper packages.
**What does reporting actually show?** Follower count is not a metric that pays your bills. Ask for reach, saves, profile visits, and enquiries generated.
The Johannesburg / Cape Town / Durban difference
Johannesburg agencies price closest to corporate budgets and tend to sit at the top of each band. Cape Town runs close behind, with a design-conscious market that charges for visual craft. Durban is typically 15-25% cheaper for comparable scope, though that gap has been narrowing as more agencies work remotely across all three cities.
What we charge
We publish ranges rather than requiring a call to find out. Most salon, spa, restaurant, and clinic accounts land in the R7,000 - R18,000 band depending on platform count and shoot frequency, with ad management quoted separately and transparently.
