How to Get More Salon Clients: 9 Things That Actually Work

July 28, 2026 · 7 min read

Most salon marketing advice is about getting new clients. But the fastest gains almost always come from the clients you already have and the enquiries you are currently losing. Here is the order we would actually work through.

1. Answer your messages faster

The single cheapest improvement available. Most salon enquiries go to Instagram DMs or WhatsApp, and most go unanswered for hours. People book with whoever replies first.

Set up WhatsApp Business quick replies for your five most common questions. Response time under fifteen minutes converts dramatically better than under two hours.

2. Fix your Google Business Profile

"Salon near me" and "hair colour [area]" are how people find you when they do not already know you. Complete the profile, add real photos monthly, keep hours accurate, list your services individually.

This is free, takes an afternoon, and for most salons produces more bookings than any paid campaign of comparable effort.

3. Ask every happy client for a review

Not at checkout when they are paying and leaving. Ask at the moment they look in the mirror and react well. Make it one tap with a QR code or a pre-written WhatsApp link.

Twenty recent reviews will beat a competitor's two hundred old ones in local ranking and in customer trust.

4. Rebook before they leave the chair

The highest-value sentence in a salon is "shall I put you in for six weeks?" said while the client is still happy and still sitting down. Rebooking rate is the number most salons never measure and could most easily improve.

5. Post transformations, consistently

Before-and-afters are the highest-converting content in this industry, full stop. Same lighting, same angle, client permission on file. Aim for at least two a week.

Ask permission at the start of the appointment, not the end. Yes rates are far higher.

6. Put your prices where people can see them

Hidden prices do not create intrigue, they create friction. Most people will not message to ask. Publish ranges at minimum. You will lose the people who were never going to book anyway and convert more of the ones who were.

7. Reactivate lapsed clients

Pull everyone who has not visited in three to four months and send a personal WhatsApp message. Not a blast, a real message. This costs nothing and typically outperforms new-client advertising by a wide margin.

8. Make one staff member visible

People book a person, not a premises. Introduce your team, show their specialisms, let their personality show. Clients who feel they know their stylist before arriving are more likely to book and less likely to price-shop.

9. Only then, consider ads

Paid advertising amplifies whatever is already happening. If your response time is slow, your prices are hidden and your reviews are stale, ads amplify a broken funnel and waste the budget.

Fix one through eight first. Most salons never need to reach nine.

The order matters more than the list

Almost every salon we work with is losing more bookings to slow replies and hidden prices than to a lack of awareness. Awareness is the expensive problem. Conversion is the cheap one, and it is nearly always the actual bottleneck.
